TAKING THE LEAD SUSTAINABLY

For the ninth consecutive year, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) — the main international index evaluating companies on their performance in terms of sustainable development — has ranked Air France-KLM leader of the \”Airlines\” industry.
And for the fifth year running, Air France-KLM has been ranked leader of the broader \”Transport\” category, covering air, rail, sea and road transport as well as airport activities.
Frederic Gagey, chairman and CEO of Air France, said: \”Committed to a comprehensive transformation plan to restore our competitiveness, we intend to continue our efforts to reduce our environmental impact and to contribute to the development of territories where our aircraft take off and land every day. This award confirms our commitment to be a socially responsible company and our ability to understand the global changes that we face.\”
Camiel Eurlings, chairman and CEO of KLM, commented: \”I\’m very proud that we are still sector leader on sustainability. Already for nine years in a row. Every year makes it even more challenging to keep the No. 1 position on the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Index. It proves that we still continue to develop in the right direction with new sustainable initiatives.\”
Air France-KLM is concentrating on four main issues: reducing its environmental footprint, integrating sustainable development into its products and services, promoting a responsible human resources policy and contributing to the territories where the Group operates.
Among the innovating initiatives taken recently, KLM has operated long-haul flights using sustainable biofuel and both airlines have introduced a uniform recycling scheme. Air France has also continued investing in making its aircraft lighter, thus reducing its environmental impact.
The Air France-KLM group has been part of the DJSI since 2005 and is also integrated in the non-financial indexes Vigeo, ASPI, ESI Excellence and FTSE4Good.
