Globus brings back popular war memorial tour
Globus has announced that it’s bringing back its memorable special interest tour — the Great Canadian War Memorial Tour of Europe. For the first time, the company will be featuring three departures in 2013. The package is promoted as “designed by Canadians for Canadians in order to pay tribute to all who have served our country in the Great War and World War II.”The 11-day tour, to England and France, takes in many museums, memorials and special sites that commemorate Canadians’ war contributions. These include the impressive and inspiring Canadian Memorial at Vimy Ridge and the Canadian Cemeteries in Reviers and Dieppe, as well as the Newfoundland Memorial Park at Beaumont Hamel. Other destinations include the Landing Beaches of Normandy, the Juno Beach Memorial Centre, Amiens and Ypres in Belgium. The group will cross the Channel by ferry and in London take in the Imperial War Museum, the Canadian Memorial in Green Park and the Cabinet War Rooms. “This is the fifth year we have offered this tour, in response to our clients’ requests to experience first-hand some of the sites where Canadians gave so much to change world history,”says Stéphanie Bishop, managing director in Canada for the Globus family of brands. “We’ve found it appeals not only to history buffs, but also to Canadians who grew up hearing tales of war from their parents and grandparents.”Over one million Canadians served with the British Forces in World War II alone.
