Passenger Demand Continues Recovery In August
The strong, post-pandemic passenger traffic trend continued in August, according to IATA. The global airline industry association reported that: Total traffic in August 2023 (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) rose 28.4% compared to August 2022. Globally, traffic is now at 95.7% of pre-COVID levels. Domestic traffic for August rose 25.4% versus August 2022 and was 9.2% above the August 2019 results. Porter Airlines is launching service between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Edmonton International Airport (YEG). The new route begins with one daily roundtrip flight operated on the 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. Malta Plans To Launch New National Airline In March 2024
Air Malta will cease operations on March 30, 2024 and will be replaced by a new company called KM Malta Airlines p.l.c. which will begin operations on March 31, 2024, subject to the new carrier obtaining the necessary authorizations from the Maltese Civil Aviation Directorate.
