Americans Plan First Trips In Next 6 Weeks

It appears that Americans are planning to hit the road once again with the most recent Longwoods International tracking study of American travellers revealing that 48% of those travellers are planning their first trip since the pandemic struck the U.S. between now and the July 4th holiday weekend.

The tracking study also found that the most popular trip planned during this time frame is a car trip of less than 200 miles to visit family and friends, chosen by 15% of travellers. Half (52%) of American travellers do not plan to travel before the 4th of July holiday.

Amir Eylon, president and CEO of Longwoods International, notes: “Perhaps driven by the reopening happening in states and cities around the country, many Americans are planning to get back on the road in early summer. Encouragingly, we’re seeing a slow but steady decline in the impact of the pandemic on longer-term future travel plans.”

The percentage of American travellers who say coronavirus will greatly impact their travel decisions in the next six months continues to decline, falling to 53%, down from a peak of 67% on April 1.

The impact of the pandemic on future travel is at its lowest level since mid-March. And the percentage of American travellers with travel plans in the next six months remains fairly steady at 71%.
