Mexico: A Destination For All Seasons

Winter’s end doesn’t mean Mexico isn’t on the minds of Canadians who will be on the move in the next few months, reports Ian Stalker in this week’s edition of Canadian Travel Press.

Rodrigo Esponda, who oversees the Mexico Tourism Board in Canada, confidently states many from this country will soon be vacationing in his homeland, despite the arrival of warm weather here.

“Three out of four visitors from Canada come during the winter but we have seen two trends: the high season to Mexico starts earlier and finishes later every year, and during summer we have had the fastest-growing pace. The same value proposition applies in summer: families, couples, groups and solo travellers will find the perfect spot for a meaningful vacation. For example, there is no better history lesson than visiting an archeological zone that was built 2,000 years ago in a masterful way by an advanced civilization like the Maya.

“Mexican destinations are close, easy to reach and there are amazing, affordable options.”

Around 400,000 Canadians visit Mexico during summer, a number Esponda is convinced can be increased, in part thanks to “good, non-stop connectivity options from the main Canadian cities to Cancun, Vallarta-Nayarit, Los Cabos and Mexico City year-round.”

Esponda reports this past winter was a strong one for Mexico’s tourist trade, with overall Canadian visitations up 7% from the previous winter, “which is very good with the accumulated increase that Mexico has had in the last six years, doubling the number of visitors.”
