Spring festivities in works for BC ski resorts
Winter ski conditions on the BC mountains are still in full force, but they are all getting ready for the end of season spring festivities. In Fernie, 50th anniversary festivities have been in full swing all year long. There, the warmer temperatures can be ushered in throughout Ski Heritage Week, March 19-24. This blend of nostalgia and new-school events, both at the resort and in the Kootenay Rockies town, includes a classic ski film night, a Powder Pioneers Social, a new Telemark Ski Festival and an in-town Street Party. Those who hanker for straight skis, one-piece ski suits and florescent apparel can head northwest to Sun Peaks Resort for Tod Mountain Days, April 7-9. The Thompson Okanagan resort is also celebrating its 50th year this season, and says farewell to winter with its annual Slush Cup. This pits costume-clad competitors against one another as they attempt to glide across an icy pool of water and mud. (http://www.skifernie.com ; http://www.sunpeaksresort.com)
