The Buccaneer Gears Up For Annual Coral Reef Swim
The oldest family run resort in the Caribbean, The Buccaneer in St. Croix, is gearing up for the 24th annual St. Croix Coral Reef Swim on Nov. 10.
Held annually each November, the swim race attracts both fitness swimmers competing for fun and world-class, open-water athletes from all over the world. The Buccaneer’s owner, Elizabeth Armstrong, established the Coral Reef Swim in 1995 with fellow swimmer Kim Sanford as a fundraiser for the East End Marine Park, with the goal of preserving and restoring coral reefs.
The race has three distances for competitors to choose from: one mile, two miles and five miles, offering experiences for all levels of swimmers. All participants will swim through the Caribbean blue water and colourful coral reefs before ending at The Buccaneer’s palm-lined beach.
Interested parties can register for the Coral Reef Swim at https://www.active.com/christiansted-vi/water-sports/swimming/24th-annual-coral-reef-swim-2019.

The package includes accommodations, breakfast, beach gear and accessories, an introduction-to-SCUBA lesson, WiFi and a Tuesday welcome cocktail party. Ocean View Rooms start at $255 per night, while Deluxe Oceanfront Rooms start at $335 per night. A three-night minimum stay is required and taxes are not included in these rates. Proof of race registration is required at the time of booking.
