Exclusive: Reimagining The Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta
Ever since the 1964 release of The Night of the Iguana, travellers have been heading to Puerto Vallarta to take in the natural beauty showcased in the film. Situated on the Bay of Banderas, which boasts arguably one of the best beaches in the area and views of the scenic Sierra Madre Mountains, Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta opened three years ago and is now preparing to unveil its latest renovations, across 87 oceanfront rooms in its club tower, including a new lounge and reception area.
“One of the important things about the hotel is you have always, always, in every place that you are, you’re going to have an oceanview,” says German Martinez, director of sales and marketing for Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta. “You have a room with oceanview, but you also have restaurants, bars, any location has the view, and that’s important because every one who comes to Puerto Vallarta, they want to have a beautiful view.”
Along with six gourmet restaurants, five pools and a spa with services ranging from facials and massages to agave-themed treatments (the state of Jalisco is, after all, one of the largest producers of tequila) and the notable fish spa experience pedicure treatment — all of which come complete with access to a hydrotherapy circuit and jacuzzis — clients can partake in drink and cooking demonstrations, circuit training, kayak tours, a 24-hour gym with a certified instructor, and more, at no additional cost.
“This is an old, new hotel,” he says, adding the resort had formerly been the Dreams Puerto Vallarta, before it was completely overhauled three years ago. “It’s got history, but many new aspects like the spa, restaurants, all the pools.”
For those who can tear themselves away from lounging on the beach or pool side, the resort is a short drive away from the cobblestoned streets of Puerto Vallarta, featuring numerous galleries, bars, shops, restaurants and the landmark Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Depending on the time of year, visitors can witness humpback whales, dolphins or a turtle release.
